My Hopes For The New Year

It's appropriate at the start of the new year to reflect on what you want out of life. More appropriately it's a good time to decide as a small business owner what you want your year to look like. We all know making new year resolutions or goals, that most of the time it's hard to actually fulfill these promises we make to ourselves. In reflecting on the past year, I came to the realization that SO much happened in my life that was life changing. It's not even like anything earth-shattering happened but life CHANGED as it does every day. Not only was 2012 an amazing year for Rebecca Simeone Designs but it was also a great year of personal growth. Now onto those hopes I have for the new year:

1. Get fit, stay fit and eat right.
Now this is a promise that NEARLY every person makes come January 1 of a new year. But I'm sticking to this promise to myself. Life it too short to eat and drink it away unhealthily. And while a little indulgence is necessary to make any weight loss story successful I'm sticking to my plan of working out and eating right. I've re-joined Weight Watchers (was a member two years ago and had incredible results) and am starting a more scheduled work-out routine of yoga and P90X. Recently I've been bitten by the cooking bug so I'd like to continue making 1-2 new recipes and meals a week as well as cooking with my boyfriend so we never get tired of food. Cooking is a GREAT way to stay creative.

2. Be more positive.
Overall, everyday, we all tend to think negatively about things in our lives that just aren't going right. I want to change that negative behavior in myself. I want to start and end the day with prayer and think positively throughout the day because you know what?? Prayers whether you know you are praying or not, are heard. Your positive thoughts not only show through your actions, but you tend to do good for others. So why don't we ALL treat ourselves a little nicer and hope on the positive train of thinking?? And if you need help adapting a positive mindset, read The Secret by Rhonda Byrne...seriously an amazing read.

3. Continue to Voice my Voice as a small business owner.
2012 was the year I learned where I wanted my business to go. For so many years I tried to be what every other person thought I should be. Then I realized I wasn't living up to who or what I wanted to be. I want to continue to push my market for children, family and newborn photography and continue to assist as an assistant photographer for weddings. I no longer want to be a wedding photographer, but love the industry and continue to enjoy helping so many other talented and passionate wedding photographers. Graphic Design is still very much a part of my business, but photography is what really took off for me once I went full time with my business. I still want to be as creative as a I can be and use my strength as a designer to help aid me in other areas of my business.

4. Incorporate my business life with my personal life.
Instead of taking EVERY business opportunity that comes my way, I want to make the right decisions as to what jobs, sessions or opportunities I take as a business owner. Oftentimes I feel boggled down by not having enough personal time, or time with the people I love to feel, well, sane. I think everyone can find their own balance of working hard AND enjoying life.

That's it, everyone! I have set forth some pretty realistic expectations of my year and I'm pretty certain I can accomplish it all. When winter comes around and it's so cold you don't want to get out of bed, it's also a GREAT time to changes things you want to change. I'm excited to incorporate these goals into my life, so excited that I'm ready to kick 2013's butt :)

Here's to 2013, eveyone...and all it has in store :)
